What is Literati?

Literati is a book subscription service, and so much more. At Literati we pride ourselves on delivering the hottest, most celebrated, challenging new fiction and interesting, informative new non-fiction books, with a strong focus on Australian writing.

But that’s not all. Every month we offer you the exclusive opportunity to get up close and personal (currently via Zoom due to the pandemic) with a guest speaker (we’re talking the author, editors, critics etc) to unpack the book, its themes and answer all your burning questions!

What kinds of fiction books will you send me?

It’s a surprise - we hand pick the best new literary fiction releases both in Australia and internationally for you to immerse yourselves in. We generally announce our monthly picks shortly before the order cut-off dates.

Don’t like surprises? Look at your Literati subscription like you would a book club. You can’t always choose the book, but you trust that it’s being chosen by someone with good taste. What you can expect: high quality reading, followed by exclusive Live Q&As with authors, critics and more, as well as the opportunity to be part of a community of book lovers, and the odd Literati party!

What kinds of non-fiction books will you send me?

Our non-fiction subscribers will receive books on global and Australian economics and politics, entrepreneurship, technology and/or climate change. Through this subscription stream we aim to keep you informed on the political and business landscape and inspire deep thinking about cultural and societal issues.

What kinds of classics will you send me?

Don’t worry, we won’t send you 1984, Jane Eyre or To Kill A Mockingbird - we know you’ve covered those ones. We will send classics that you are less likely to have read, but which are still household names. We hope to broaden your knowledge of the ‘modern classics’.

Will I know what book you are sending?

Yes, we announce our monthly picks in the weeks leading up to the order cut-off date. Regardless, trust us and you won’t be disappointed. We sift through the lemons so you don’t have to. We will ensure you receive only the highest-quality new literary titles and promise only the best surprises delivered to your door.

Does everyone receive the same book?

Each month, all subscribers of each subscription stream will receive the same fiction/non-fiction/classic handpicked by us for you. If you choose an ‘every second month’ subscription, you will only receive a book every second month, so you will miss every second book of your chosen stream(s).

What will the ‘live Q&As’ involve?

The first 30-40 minutes will be a Q&A session with the author. This includes interactive question time between the guest star and subscribers (unless the guest requests otherwise). Prior to the session, we will invite you to submit any questions you have (and, subject to the number of questions submitted, we will invite you to ask your question during the Q&A!).

After this time, we will split you up into break out groups (in Zoom) and for those that stay, we will encourage you to chat amongst yourselves (with prompts) about your thoughts on the books. Even though we expect our subscribers will be like-minded people, we understand that not everyone would like to chat about books with new people. Prior to the session, you are most welcome to request to be placed with certain other subscribers.

If you would like your book club to be grouped, we are happy to accommodate that!

Live Q&A etiquette

Please keep your microphone on mute, unless you are invited to speak.

Please be respectful of your fellow Literati subscribers, discussion facilitators and guest speakers. Do not interrupt the speaker at any given time, and be accepting of and open to opinions that differ from your own. We expect our subscribers to support us in creating a safe space for discussion, healthy educated debate and questions. Please do not use offensive language or make derogatory or sarcastic comments or jokes.

Can my book club join Literati?

Absolutely! Each book club member can sign up - this could take the struggle out of choosing your monthly books!

We would also be happy to put your book club in your own ‘break out’ group during the discussion components of our monthly live Q&As.

How do I join?

1. Simply add your preferred subscription(s) to the cart and proceed to checkout.

2. You will be prompted to fill in your email address, billing and shipping information.

3. Welcome to the Literati Book Club! Now look forward to your contact-less delivery and exclusive access to Literati’s Live Q&As for thought provoking discussions of the highest quality!

Need longer to absorb your book?

No problem! Skip a month at any time by emailing us at team@literatibookclub.com.au. Your subscription will simply be placed on hold at no cost for that month.

Can I switch ‘streams’?

Any given month, you are welcome to switch subscription streams by cancelling your current subscription and signing up to your chosen subscription stream. As long as you make the change before the 1st of the month, you will be able to receive the next month’s book of your chosen stream.

How do I cancel?

We have loved you being part of Literati Book Club and are sorry to hear you have to go. Remember, if you would like to skip a month or two (at no charge), we are always happy to accommodate.
